Shop lighting is designed to meet specific requirements for color rendering, brightness, and color temperature. If you choose to surface mount your shop light, you will need mounting screws and run the power into one of the knockouts that are located on the fixture's housing.

The easiest way to determine how many amps LED shop lights will draw is by taking the total wattage of an individual fixture and dividing by the input voltage. For example, if you will be using a 40 watt fixture and the input voltage is 120V, the LED shop light would be drawing 0.33 amps.

To determine how many lumens you will need for shop lighting will depend on the size of the space. As a general rule of thumb, you will need at least 1000 lumens of light output per 100 square foot foot of space. For example, if your total area is 5000 square feet, you will need at least 50000 lumens for adequate shop lighting.

To determine how many LED shop lights you will need will depend on the overall size of your space and what type of work you will be performing. However, you can get a base line count of how many fixtures you will need by taking the square footage of the entire space and allocating 1000 lumens of light output per 100 sq foot. For example, if your shop is 10000 square feet and the LED shop lights you will be installing provide 2000 lumens worth of light output each, you will need a total of at least five fixtures.

There are two ways that you can daisy chain shop lights. The first and most commonly used method is by running wire or conduit between each fixture. The second and newest method is using inline connectors. These connectors allow the power to flow from one shop light to the next and so on until you reach the last fixture.

To hardwire a shop light will depend on the type of fixture you have. If you have a plug in shop light, you will need to remove the plug on the end of the cord that is attached to the fixture. Then you will need to feed those wires into a junction box and connect them to the black (hot), white (neutral) and green (ground) wires. If you have a shop light without a cord and plug, you will need to run electrical wire from an existing junction box to the fixture and connect it to the fixture's LED driver.

There are several different installation options for LED shop lights depending on which type you have. If you have a plug in LED shop light the process is simple, you mount the fixture and plug it into an existing electrical outlet. If you have a hardwired LED shop light, first you will need to run power to the fixture from an existing switch and junction box.

If your looking to mount shop lights flush to the ceiling, you need to follow a few simple steps.

1. Turn off the the power to area where the fixture is being installed.
2. Remove the cover pan from the fixture to expose the mounting holes and internal wiring.
3. Use the mounting hardware that comes with the shop light fixture to secure it flush against the ceiling.
4. Then make all the necessary wiring connections and turn the power back on to the area.

When it comes to installing linkable LED shop lights, you need to follow a few simple steps.

1. Turn off the the power to area where the fixtures are being installed.
2. Starting with the first LED shop light that is receiving power, remove the cover pan from the fixture to expose the internal wiring.
3. Connect the incoming electrical wire to the LED driver located inside of the fixture.
4. Replace the bottom cover pan.
5. Attach the inline connector that comes with your fixture to the opposite end of where the power is coming in and connect it to the next LED shop light in line.
6. Repeat this connection process until you get to the last fixture in the series.
7. After all wiring and connections have been made you need to turn the power back on to the area.

Choosing what gauge wire for LED shop lights you should use depends on what the voltage of power that is going to be used to power each fixture. Typically, we recommend using 12-gauge wire to prevent voltage drops that can result in longer runs. Its also important to check with your local municipality to ensure that you will be meeting electrical code requirements.
